Medical Conditions Related to Swollen Feet Causes
Swollen ankles can be affected from heart disease, kidney or liver failure, resulting in excess fluid buildup called peripheral edema.
Edema can affect the entire lower leg area. If you consistently have swollen ankles, legs or feet and have not had a diagnosis yet, see your doctor.
Swollen ankles can also be caused by vascular obstruction such as blood clots, DVT and venous problems such as varicose veins. Ankle arthritis can also cause swollen feet and ankles.
Infection is less common for swollen ankles, but should be explored if you are having trouble with a diagnosis. A prescription medication would be the solution, but surgery is a possibility.
Ankle arthritis is also a less common cause, but if present it is quite painful. People who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis or have had repeated injuries to the ankle joint are most probable to this diagnosis
Common swollen feet causes are also due to Gout, an abnormal digestion problem producing uric acid crystals. These crystals can accumulate within joints leading to inflammation and swelling.
The most obvious of all conditions to produce a swollen foot is a traumatic injury such as an ankle sprain, broken ankle or stress fracture.

Cirrhosis is a liver disease mostly caused by heavy drinking. Swollen feet and ankles are a warning sign of this disease along with a swollen stomach.
